My neighbor adopted a five month old pit bull a couple of weeks ago. He has been telling us since the day we got our pit bull two years ago that we aren't raising her right, that she needs more discipline, etc, but we smile and nod and move on with our lives. The day he brought home his puppy, he brought him over to introduce him to us. The puppy was staring at my cat. Neighbor yelled his name, and when puppy didn't turn away from the cat, neighbor popped him on the head. His girlfriend expressed her thoughts on the matter - she was very opposed. My fiance and I agreed with her. Neighbor told us, "He's a male pit. He can't feel it. You just gotta discipline 'em." He assured us that it was nothing more than a smack here and there. While I disagree, I can't tell him how to raise his dog.
However, I just witnessed him in his yard with puppy on a choke chain, yanking on it as hard as he could, kicking the crap out of the dog. The dog was screaming, and he just kept kicking him. That's something I can't let go. The problem is this: we've already expressed how we feel about him hitting his dog more than once. If we report him, he's going to know it was us. He has another neighbor on the other side who has called the cops on him before (for beating the crap out of his stepson in the yard...) but he assumed that was us as well because the other lady is disabled and doesn't come out of her house. He is psycho and would absolutely retaliate if he knew we got his dog taken away from him. (And I don't mean like egg my house or something stupid, I mean slash my tires, poison my animals kind of retaliate.) So what do I do?
